Rolex Zenith Daytona 16528

The Rolex Daytona has a long, rich history as one of the most iconic and sought after models in the horological world. For many years collectors were most drawn towards versions with four digit reference numbers and mechanically wound movements, like the 6241, 6263 or 6265, but in recent years that has changed. It seems that with every week and month the “Zenith” Daytona becomes more coveted and we believe rightly so.

Rolex Zenith Daytona 16528

The “Zenith” Daytona was born in 1988 as the first Daytona to feature an automatic movement. We also saw the first major change to the Daytona’s case size and shape in decades. The new Daytona 16520 featured an automatic movement based on the Zenith Calibre 4030, the only automatic chronograph movement that passed Rolex’s high standards. This new 40mm Daytona ushered in a new era for the Rolex Daytona and was a great success for the brand.

The “Zenith” Daytona was released in a few metal variations; the 16520 was made in steel, 16523 in two-tone steel & yellow gold, and 16528 which was solid yellow gold. Over the years there was some slight variation in dial details, bezel and bracelet, but overall the reference stayed the same through the early 2000s.
