The Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar 3940 was released in 1986 and set a high bar for modern perpetual calendars. Rumor has it, the 3940 was the watch of choice for Patek patriarch Philippe Stern. The 3940 features an automatic, micro-rotor powered calibre 240-Q movement and a very wearable 34mm case.
The first series of 3940s, which were released in 1986, feature what is now referred to as a first series dial. The watch offered here is a first series 3940 with a solid gold caseback and was sold in August of 1987. The watch is in excellent condition, likely never polished and very well kept. This watch comes with an extract from the archives of Patek Philippe.
