Introduced in 1986 as the successor to the legendary reference 2499, the Patek Philippe reference 3970 represents an important chapter in the manufactures history of perpetual calendar chronographs. Produced until 2004, the reference combined two of Patek Philippes most celebrated complications in a beautifully proportioned 36mm case, powered by the manually wound calibre CH 27-70 Q.
The present example is particularly striking, pairing a platinum case with a glossy black dial. Applied white-gold indexes and matching hands contrast beautifully against the dark surface, while the twin chronograph registers, perpetual calendar indications and moonphase display create a remarkably balanced composition. The combination of platinum and black gives the watch a distinctly contemporary character while preserving the classical proportions of the reference.
Of particular note is the exceptional condition of the case. The distinctive stepped lugs retain excellent definition, with crisp edges and clearly preserved hallmarks. The sapphire display back reveals the beautifully finished movement, with its intricate arrangement of chronograph levers, bridges and wheels.
Manufactured in 2001, as confirmed by its accompanying Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives, this example dates to the final years of reference 3970 production. It is accompanied by a Patek Philippe service box and service hangtag. With its desirable black dial, platinum case and outstanding state of preservation, this is a particularly compelling example of one of Patek Philippes most important modern complicated wristwatches.

When a watch is purchased, our watchmaker will perform a thorough inspection of the movement and perform a number of tests to ensure the watch is functioning in top condition before shipping. This process can take 7-10 business days.
Once your watch is ready, watches shipped within the United States are sent via insured FedEx Overnight and will arrive the next day. We will send over tracking information once the watch ships.
International shipping can take a number of days considering customs and travel. Straps made from exotic materials banned for import will be removed from the watch prior to shipping.
We know it can be difficult be completely certainly that a watch's condition, size or shape is what you are looking for.
We provide a 5 day inspection period from delivery so that you may receive the watch and decide if it is right for you.
This is not a trial period; our watches are well documented and any wear or damage will be deducted from the return amount.

This includes abnormal time keeping relative to the watches age, battery replacements and general mechanical issues inside the watch. Many of the watches we sell are vintage and thus may gain or lose more time than modern specifications.
