The Aquanaut was introduced in 1997 as the 5066, Gerald Gentas final major contribution to Patek Philippes catalogue before the line evolved through successive references. The 5065 followed shortly after as the a slightly larger variant its cushion-form case, composite strap with embossed checker motif, and Arabic numeral dial maintaining the same deliberate departure from the formality of the Nautilus. Production of the 5065 ran until the mid-2000s, and the vast majority of examples left the factory in black dial configurations.

The white dial variant of the 5065 is, by any measure, an outlier. The reference suffix 011 confirmed on the original hangtag present with this example does not correspond to a standard production dial color for this reference, and white dial 5065 examples are exceptionally seldom encountered in the market. Whether this represents a prototype, a special-order piece, or a limited undocumented variant has not been definitively established; what is clear is that confirmed examples are very few in number, and the white dial transforms the character of the watch entirely. Where the standard 5065 reads as a casual, outdoors-oriented piece, the white dial lends a crispness and visual clarity that feels almost formal the same case and strap language, but a fundamentally different presence on the wrist.

The dial itself retains the full Aquanaut architecture: embossed crosshatch relief pattern across the surface, Arabic numerals in black, lumed rectangular indices on the inner chapter ring, date aperture at three oclock. Hands are the standard Aquanaut sword form. The white composite strap matching the dial, not an afterthought connects to the case via the characteristic notched steel deployant and appears to be in excellent condition. Through the sapphire exhibition caseback, calibre 315 SC is visible, its gold rotor engraved with the Calatrava cross and finished to the standard expected of a Patek movement of this period.

This example presents in excellent overall condition, with the original hangtag intact a meaningful detail given the references uncertain production context and the corresponding importance of documentation.
