Among the most extraordinary creations of Audemars Piguets late twentieth-century production are its skeletonized perpetual calendars, watches that combine the manufactures longstanding expertise in complicated watchmaking with the meticulous art of openworking. The reference 25669 is an especially compelling expression of this tradition, and the present platinum example, one of only three made in this configuration, is exceptionally rare.

The dial is a remarkable study in transparency and detail. The extensively skeletonized movement is visible beneath four deep blue subsidiary displays indicating the month, date, day and moonphase. Blued steel hands, a beautifully decorated moonphase disc and twelve diamond hour markers provide contrast against the intricate arrangement of exposed wheels, bridges and levers. The effect is both technically fascinating and surprisingly elegant, with the openworked architecture becoming the principal decorative element of the watch.

Measuring 36mm in diameter, the platinum case features a stepped bezel and restrained proportions, allowing the elaborate dial to remain the focal point. Of particular distinction is the accompanying platinum bracelet, its intricate woven construction and alternating textured rectangular links lending the watch an unmistakably vintage character. The substantial bracelet transforms what is already a remarkable complication into an unusually elaborate piece of jewelry and watchmaking.

Visible through the sapphire caseback is the beautifully skeletonized automatic perpetual calendar movement, with its hand-finished bridges, exposed gear train and engraved gold rotor segment. The openworking extends throughout the movement, offering an unusually complete view of its mechanical architecture from both sides.

Produced in a configuration limited to just three examples, this reference 25669PT brings together several of Audemars Piguets most celebrated specialties: perpetual calendars, skeletonization, precious-metal craftsmanship and highly limited production. The combination of platinum, diamond indexes, blue calendar displays and an elaborate matching bracelet makes this a particularly distinctive example of the manufactures complicated watchmaking.
