Rolex is perhaps the most well-known watch brands in history and of the Rolex models, the Daytona is one of the most sought after produced by the illustrious brand. Over the years vintage collectors have nicknamed different variations; the Paul Newman, the Big Red, Panda, Sigma dial or Big Eye. But before all of this pageantry, before Rolex named their watch after the now famous Daytona race way, the Pre-Daytona 6238 was THE Rolex chronograph.
One thing that makes the 6238 so rare is that it was produced between 1962 and 1968 in as few as 2,000-2,500 pieces, including all configurations of dials and metals. This particular example in steel with a black dial is among the most rare examples (yellow gold with black dial being the rarest). This 50+ year old watch is in fantastic condition, with a beautiful black dial free of any flaws or scratches. The case is also in wonderful condition, a true rarity among Rolex watches of this age. The 1.10 million serial number suggests the watch was produced around 1964/65. This is an incredible piece for any vintage collector.
